Essential oils have been around for thousands of years but few people take advantage of their many healing properties.
Oils are extracted out of plants/herbs/trees etc so they empower a great amount of the ability from the source that they came from. As an example, chamomile flowers are said to be a good additive to a hot or nervous horses diet, or a wound cleanser when infused in a tea, but chamomile essential oil has a string of properties and uses that is really too long to list! Essential oils are extremely powerful in treating many different ailments and psychological issues.
EO's are natural, but with any natural therapies and alternatives such as herbal or homeopathy, care, safety and knowledge must be taken, as when used incorrectly they can be harmful. Certain oils are harmful to people or animals suffering from certain conditions, cats are not able to be given essential oils due to their liver building up toxicity to the EO's, young babies, children and the elderly can have bad skin reactions and so on. So as you can see, it is extremely important to know all about EO's and how to formulate mixtures for safe and excellent results. It certainly isn't a case of adding a dash of this and a drop of that and voila we have a mixture. Correct product formulation requires time, knowledge of each oil and each carrier product, formulation rates, categories of notes that the EO's fall under, safe products to increase shelf life etc. We've worked tirelessly so you don't have to do that, but rather enjoy and use these products with peace of mind and security.
Anecdotal research has shown that because animals have such a profound sense of smell, it is best to let the animal (in our case horses) sniff the mixture of which you're going to apply. If you get responses such as lots of sniffing, flehman response, trying to nibble the bottle etc, then apparently your horse is very happy with the concoction and would like you to use it on him! If he walks away, pins ears back or any signs of obvious hatred of the mixture, it is advised not to use that particular mixture on him.
I'm sure you've all noticed that when you use many commercial products on your horses such as strong liniments, wound ointments, itch products etc that your horse is tensing his muscles, swishing his tail or shaking his head. You've probably been thinking 'its because i'm treating something thats sore, he'll thank me later' when often its a case of the horse trying to tell you that the product is making him uncomfortable, that it is burning or stinging. What you will notice with our products is that the horse is usually relaxed and inviting of the product treatment. This is because the EO's and carrier products we use are kind and gentle on the skin. They don't burn, irritate or sting. They simply do the job that they're supposed to do for the particular ailment.
With our experience in using essential oils, we have found them to be absolutely fantastic in so many different situations for so many different things. We hope you've learnt a thing or 2 from this page and that you're willing to branch out into a new world of horse health and natural products. You won't be disapointed.
